Enter a few details about your home to see an estimate of the federal battery rebate for your system. It takes about a minute, and you don’t need to give us any contact details to see the result.
How the battery rebate works
The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program reduces the cost of a home battery through Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs). The number of certificates a battery earns depends on its usable capacity and on when it is installed. Most households assign their certificates to their installer, and the value comes off the price of the system at the point of sale. You don’t wait for a refund, and there is no separate application for you to lodge.
Support is tiered by size. The first 14 kWh of usable capacity earns the full rate, the next 14 kWh earns a reduced rate, and capacity from 28 kWh to 50 kWh earns a smaller rate again. Capacity above 50 kWh earns nothing. The rate per kWh also steps down every six months from 1 January 2027 until the program winds down at the end of 2030. So the same battery earns less in later years.
Who is eligible
- The battery is between 5 kWh and 100 kWh nominal capacity.
- It is installed with new or existing solar panels (a solar system of up to 100 kW).
- For grid-connected homes, the battery system must be capable of joining a virtual power plant (VPP). You don’t have to join one.
- The battery and the installation must meet the program’s product and installer requirements. We check this for every system we quote.
What your estimate means
The calculator gives an estimate of the rebate, not a quote. Your final figure depends on the exact battery and inverter, its usable capacity, your installation date and an on-site check of your switchboard and wiring. We confirm the rebate in writing in your quote, so the price you sign is the price after the discount.

Common questions
Is the rebate means-tested?
No. The federal program is not income-tested. Eligibility depends on the battery and the installation, not your income.
Can I add a battery to the solar panels I already have?
Yes. A battery installed alongside an existing solar system can be eligible, as long as the system meets the requirements above.
Does a bigger battery get a bigger rebate?
Up to a point. Because support is tiered, each extra kWh above 14 kWh earns less, and nothing is earned above 50 kWh of usable capacity. The right size depends on your evening and overnight usage, not on the rebate.

- What the estimate assumes: the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program rules published by the Clean Energy Regulator as at 5 October 2026, and the information you enter.
- What changes your rebate: the number of Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) a system earns depends on its usable capacity, the capacity tiers and the STC factor in force when the system is installed. That factor is scheduled to reduce from 1 January 2027 and every six months after that. The value of the certificates is set by the market and by the rate offered by your installer.
- The program can change: the Australian Government or the Clean Energy Regulator may change the program, its eligibility rules or its timing at any time, without notice to us or to you.
- Eligibility: it is subject to the battery, inverter and installation meeting all program requirements at the time of installation, including product listing, installer accreditation and virtual power plant capability for grid-connected systems.
- Your quote: your actual rebate and price are confirmed only in a written quote from Northwest Energy Solutions Pty Ltd, following an assessment of your property. Any estimate of savings depends on your energy use, tariffs and other factors outside our control, and is not guaranteed.
- Not advice: this calculator does not take into account your personal objectives, financial situation or needs, and is not financial advice.
- Not a government service: Northwest Energy Solutions Pty Ltd is a private company. It is not part of, affiliated with or endorsed by the Australian Government or the Clean Energy Regulator.
